Hi everyone, I'm Yao. I'm considering a consultation in Seoul, but I'm a bit worried about the language barrier. My English is pretty good, but I'm not so confident about medical terminology. I'd like to ask if most clinics in Korea allow communication in English during consultations? Or do some clinics have Chinese-speaking staff or translators?
I've heard that many clinics provide translators or at least English-speaking consultants to attract international clients, but I don't want to find myself having communication difficulties once I get there. Has anyone recently had a consultation and could share their experience? I'm particularly interested in whether I can fully understand the doctor's advice during the consultation.
Another question: Do I need to specify my language requirements when making an appointment? For example, should I mention it when calling or emailing? Or are there translation tools available on-site? I don't want language issues to affect the quality of my consultation, so I'd like to know beforehand. Thank you!

I was worried about this too when I first went for a consultation in Seoul! My little tip is to contact them in advance via email or messenger to let them know you need an interpreter. They'll arrange it beforehand, saving you the trouble. Most places that cater to foreign clients have English-speaking staff or translators on hand, so you can rest assured! 😊
I was asking the same question! My English is good, but I don't really understand the medical terminology. I hear that there are people who speak English in most places, but I think it's a good idea to contact them in advance.
Yao-san, I completely understand! I had the same worries. Medical terminology in English is really difficult, isn't it? I think it would be a good idea to ask about language support when you make your appointment so that things go smoothly on the day. In my experience, larger clinics often have interpreters available.
