Hello everyone! I'm Tinghui from Taiwan. I'm recently considering getting some aesthetic medical consultations in Seoul, but I'm a bit worried about the language barrier. My English is okay, and Chinese is no problem, but I don't know Korean... I'd love to hear about everyone's experiences!
I'm a little afraid that I won't be able to clearly express the results I want during consultations, or that I won't understand the medical jargon the doctor uses. Has anyone consulted in Seoul before? Is it absolutely necessary to know Korean, or is English sufficient? Do they usually provide translation services?
I would be so grateful if anyone has had a similar experience! I want to know how to ensure smooth communication to avoid a wasted trip or misunderstandings about the results. I'd also like to know if there's anything I should prepare in advance or bring with me. Thanks for all your advice!

Yes, I totally understand this concern! When I first went for my skin check-up, I was fine with English, but I recommend writing down a list of things you want to ask beforehand. It helps a lot because if you don't understand something clearly, you can just point to it 😊 Many places have staff who speak good English, so don't worry!
Hi Tinghui! I'm also from Taiwan and had the same concerns during my last consultation in Seoul. In my experience, many places have consultants who speak English or Chinese. However, I still brought a small notebook with simple pictures and notes in both Chinese and English describing the results I wanted, which made communication super clear! I suggest you first ask via email or message in Chinese if they offer language assistance. That way, you won't be as nervous before you go 😊
Hi Tinghui! I totally understand your worry—I had the same concern when I first came here too. From my experience, many places in Seoul can handle English, but it's definitely safer if you prepare some notes or reference photos before you go, to minimize miscommunication. Some also provide interpreters or staff who speak English, so it's worth asking beforehand if you have an appointment. Hope your consultation goes smoothly! 💚
I completely understand your concerns! I'm also a Chinese speaker and had the same worries last year when I was consulting in Seoul. My advice is to write down the results you want in Chinese or English beforehand and bring photos or reference images with you. This way, you won't have to rely entirely on an on-site translator. Many clinics actually have staff who can speak Chinese or English, so just let them know during your consultation that you need translation assistance. Don't be too nervous! 😊
I went to Seoul last year and had the same language barrier issues 😅 Try speaking English first. Most clinics have staff who can speak English. If you don't understand, try finding a clinic with a translator or prepare photos of the symptoms you want to address beforehand, as this will help communicate much better!
Hi Tinghui! I'm also from outside Korea and a bit worried about the language barrier. But from what I've heard, many places in Seoul have English-speaking staff, especially those that frequently serve international patients. I'm curious, when you were looking for consultation places, did any mention having interpreter services or English-speaking staff? Or do you usually search online first before visiting?
