Hello, it's Madoka. I've been struggling with this for a while, and I'm thinking of taking the plunge and getting double eyelid surgery in Seoul. While I can get the procedure done in Japan, Korea seems to offer more options and I've heard good things from reviews... However, when I consider the practicalities like travel expenses and the need for multiple follow-up visits for post-operative care, I'm unsure if it's truly worth the trip.
Has anyone actually traveled abroad for surgery? I'm particularly interested in practical aspects like whether it's possible to fly back home during the post-operative downtime, or if I need to stay in Korea for a few days. Also, I'm a bit anxious thinking about potential language barriers and what to do if any complications arise...
It seems some places offer online consultations beforehand, but there are likely many things that can only be assessed with an in-person examination there. How did you all make your decisions? I'd appreciate any advice you can offer.

Hey! I did this last year from the US and honestly the downtime thing was my biggest worry too — I ended up staying for about 10 days just to be safe, and I'm really glad I did because I needed a few follow-up visits. The swelling was way more intense than I expected those first few days, so flying back immediately would've been rough. My advice? Budget for at least a week in Seoul if you can, and maybe book your flights flexible just in case. The language barrier wasn't as bad as I thought — most places have English-speaking staff or translators — but def have a translator app ready just to be extra sure about aftercare instructions!
I'm also thinking about this, so I completely understand how you feel! The hardest part is calculating the cost of flights + accommodation for several days, because you can't fly back immediately after surgery. I'm trying to figure out how long it's safe to travel so I can decide if it's worth it.
