This is a treatment that restores the tooth to look like a natural tooth by implanting an artificial root (fixture) in the place of the lost tooth and placing a prosthesis on it.
An implant is a treatment that restores the function and form of a natural tooth by implanting a titanium artificial root into the gum bone where a tooth is missing and attaching a prosthesis (crown) after osseointegration. It does not require grinding down surrounding teeth.
After diagnosis and implantation surgery, the prosthesis is attached following an osseointegration period (usually 2 to 4 months) during which the artificial tooth root firmly bonds to the bone. If there is insufficient bone, bone grafting is performed concurrently.
Smoking, diabetes, and gum disease can affect the success rate, and regular checkups and oral hygiene management after implantation determine the lifespan.
If oral hygiene is well maintained and regular checkups are performed, it is often used for more than 10 years.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and pain and swelling at the surgical site usually subside within 1 to 2 weeks.
