Last time I went to Seoul, I stayed near Gangnam. Although the prices were indeed higher, it was really convenient, and commuting to and from the clinic every day wasn't too tiring! My advice is not to insist on staying in the most bustling areas. There are some small hotels or guesthouses in the less crowded parts of Gangnam that are actually quite affordable, and the subway is very convenient. 5-7 days is more than enough; you'll have plenty of time for shopping and dining.

I spent about a week in Seoul last year, doing consultations and nursing care near Gangnam. I found staying in Gangnam or Apgujeong to be really convenient! Although the prices are a bit higher, you don't have to commute far by subway every day, and you can rest well during your recovery period. You could try looking at guesthouses or small hotels in that area; you should be able to find one with good value for money.
